Tough guys ain’t so tough. We’re all just scared kids. What did Lewis Carroll say?
“We’re all just elder children, dear,
Who weep to know our bedtime near.”
Quoted from memory, of course.

Both of them have come a long way under Peach’s hand. The contrast between their scratching and fighting on the prevois page and this is stark.
That’s what the Peach can do; help other people be better by example, if nothing else. It’s about all we can do. “Monkey see, monkey do.”
I just remembered, “stark” is German for “strong.” Reading the Heany’s Beowulf translation and trying to parse the Old English. And found a funny moment; the poet, after using the usual “whale-road” and swan-road,” stuck in “gannet’s bath.” Sometimes you see an author step onto the stage, as though in irony or comedy. Or a signature to prove he wrote it. Like the artist who drops a dot of turpentine onto an oil painting and presses their thumbprint into it.
(“Their” = his/her, less clumsy. I’m just gonna use it.)
Late late comment: this is still one of my absolute favourite pages in the comic. Which pretty much means it’s one of my absolute favourite comics pages, period.
