It was just fun putting flowers in a war machine. And drawing a magnificent mammal.
Too much fun drawing whatever I damn’-well pleased.
It’s like Dorothy Parker got her hands on ink and pixels.

It says, “If only that were the end.”
The SS commandant this is based had to keep up a quota – and yes, you know which one – in order to stay in the commandant’s position, allowing him to sneak whom he could out of the camp and find medicine for others.
I couldn’t have done it. I don’t have that much moral courage. Nobody does. How the hell did he do it? How does anyone have the guts to do that?
There’s no record he was sick to his stomach or had screaming guilt headaches — but he did shoot himself as soon as he could.
(IF this book does not continue on this site for AFTERDEAD 1 and 2, which are really Desert Peach 31 and 32, which it MIGHT, so stay tuned):
This is the last page of the series that was called “The Desert Peach,” (at least for now). It continues with all my characters in the surreal series AFTERDEAD. Go see what Pfirsich gets up to in his afterlife! He really does love his cell-phone. But it does no good against harpies.

In the real story I got this from, the commandant DID shoot himself just before the liberation — and the Jewish camp doctor/prisoner explained their little charade to the Americans.
I cannot — CANNOT — make up stuff like this. Nobody can. Nobody would DARE.

A colleague knew what that car was the moment he saw it. Geeks are the best people (I’m a geek, too, so is that too self-congratulatory?).

I’m a twitchy author. even though I’ve recently released my characters to my fans. When somebody begins to make assumptions about a character he’s playing, he’s liable to find that character being the un-heroic opposite of what he imagined.
There’s a masculine reason why the series nemesis is called “Winzig.”
Listening to Garry Trudeau on CBC radio today, saying he’s never been afraid of anybody threatening him — and there have been some biggies — because the more public the better. He did mention it was harder to the society’s scold because nobody has any shame any more, but us cartoonists really shouldn’t be pointing fingers on that little failing.
I’ve been his fan since the beginning, of course, but as my characters have a union and I’m just management, he says he’s the dictator of his own characters. NONE of us think these things we scribble with ink are real. We don’t think we’re in control, either. Somebody once compared my character Dobermann to Zeke — no doubt because as authors we both have those real people in our lives. We can’t make up any of this stuff.

Lieutenant Virgin, here, is based on my friend and colleague Terrie Smith, even though she’s nothing like that. I believe the letter — back in the old typewriter days — that bloomed with his birth is in the files at the Donna Barr collection at SDSU’s special collections.

This is actually the most truly stomach-turning moment in this episode. Shit you can wash off — somebody’s beloved head you cannot stick back on.

This is just gratuitous, childish ickiness, with the artist giggling her fool head off.
With the added, much more terrible horror on a little piece of paper.
I’ve been accused of yanking my readers’ heads around.
Well, d’uh.
