Remember the scraggly lines in the forest in the last issue?
Clean and hot was what I was going for here. The sun wipes out details.
Whoa. I think I just got why the lines in traditional superhero comics are so simple – they’re done in California mostly, right? Just wondering.
Maybe I should color stuff. Maybe I should be more meticulous.
But, damnit, I just like how fresh, easy-going freehand black and white LOOKS. Color – um – takes away from somebody’s privilege to see the colors they want to see in their heads.
What do you see?
The Peach is getting better at holding his temper.
I had fun drawing this motorcycle. I dunno how accurate it is, but it looks motorcycle-y to me.
But – it’s always grumbly drawing bodies tangled up in motion. Sex scenes can be – ahem – hard.
This was drawn right after issue #25 — “Beautiful” — and still has the line style of spooky woods.
This was one of those self-imposed drawing challenges: make all the little lines without using a ruler. Looked more like a woodcut that way.
Had a lot of fun drawing this insane bridge. I cringe at complicated things like this, but once they get moving, they almost seem to draw themselves.
The Peach was like this as a child, as related in Bread and Swans.
BTW, Lulu is making books into e-books. Go poke them for this one (although they already have a nice cheap little pdf you can read on Nook or IPad or anything).
Kinda happy, now, with the bridge, regardless of the fast-slashed shadows.
Was fun drawing all the boys. Especially the Peach. This is one of my favorite covers. See all the pretty colored pencils? And other pretty things….
By this time, everybody’s on Pfirsich’s side. If nothing else convinces them they have a brave and determined leader, this does.
And everybody hates pederasts.
Drawn book authors use various means of showing the passage of time in a scene. One of my faves is connected word balloons and sound effects.
I had great fun doing it last night on one of the latest pages for A Little Death.
“The poor you will always have with you.” And you can burden ‘em with everything from most of the expenses to smuggling them to Thailand.
I think I drew this story with a crow-quill. Yes, those are meant for very fine lines, but not when you push ‘em hard because your head is getting ahead of your hand. You end up with a jerky, angular, electric line, which, in this case, fits perfectly to the story.
