Armies don’t INTENTIONALLY kill women and kids. They just don’t see us. Girls and kids are invisible at sports events.

Of course, being GUYS, they never think of letting the mother in on their little secret about their values.

Children can drive you crazy — but they’re always able to take your mind and put it where it’s important. And fun.
(I’m child-free — but running your kids through rivers and putting them on horses they don’t know is the MOST fun. And the most liberating.)

Doesn’t Hans clean up good?
Gotten taller, too. Proof that gay people can raise children.
Well, sort of.

This is one of the creepiest things about war.
Bomb out the town, then pose with the hungry, orphan kids.
The other creepy thing is troops thinking the locals love them — when the troops are flouncing through town with all the guns. “But they SMILED at us!”
YOU try not smiling at an occupying force. “You disrespecting me, buddy?” No, wait –that’s cops.
Oh.

Nobody’s very heroic after a war. Well, the women trying to survive, rebuild and keep the kids fed, yeah. But they were trying to do that during the war, too, with very little help.

Note how all the women in the background have no time to sit around being tired and sorry for themselves. These would be the Trümmerfrauen or “Rubble Women” who helped rebuild Germany. Somebody has to feed the kids.
Some of my readers, Americans or British, are the children or grandchildren of these women.
